Lowest brass instrument
The sound of the tuba is deep, monumental, velvety, and rolling. Despite its gigantic proportions, in skilled hands it can sound surprisingly agile, soft, and lyrical.
A massive wide brass tube up to 7 meters in total length, flaring out significantly toward a giant upward-facing bell. It features 4 to 6 valves for pitch control. The musician plays standing or sitting, supporting the instrument on their knees.
