About talking drum

Sound and Character

Sound and Character

The drum’s sound is flexible, floating, producing characteristic “vocal” glissandos that truly sound like compressed human speech or bird song.

Design and Features

Shaped like an hourglass. Two leather membranes are connected on the sides by a system of tight leather straps. By squeezing the straps under the armpit and striking the membrane with a curved mallet, the drummer changes the pitch directly while playing.
