Plucked string instrument (harp-lute)

Plucked string instrument (harp-lute)
The sound of the kora is a blend of the Celtic harp and flamenco guitar. It is fluid, cascading, transparent, and incredibly virtuosic. An experienced performer can simultaneously carry a complex bassline, rhythmic accompaniment, and improvise a melody.
The resonator is a giant dried half-gourd (calabash) covered with cow or antelope skin. A long neck passes through it, upon which 21 strings are stretched using leather rings (the left hand plays 11 strings, the right plays 10). The musician plays using only thumbs and index fingers.
