About the Sound and Character

The sound of the guzheng is grandiose, bright, shimmering, and deeply atmospheric. Due to its large resonator and individually bridged strings, the instrument can sound tender and watercolor-like, or powerful and sweeping, resembling a mountain waterfall.

Structure and Features

A modern guzheng is a massive curved paulownia body about 1.6 meters long with 21 strings. Each string rests on a movable bridge, allowing precise tuning to pentatonic or diatonic scales.
