About the Sound and Character

The sound of the dizi is piercing, silvery, light, and festive. The vibrating bamboo membrane adds rich upper harmonics to the sound, making the flute sound as if a breeze or birdsong in a spring forest is caught inside.

Structure and Features

The flute is made from a single stalk of bamboo. Aside from the blowing hole and 6 finger holes, it features the crucial membrane hole located between the embouchure and the finger holes, requiring precise tuning of the film tension.
