Sound and Character

The sound of the charango is very high, ringing, dry, crackling, resembling a mandolin or ukulele with a bright ethnic flavor.

Design and Features

The traditional charango body was made from a dried armadillo shell (today, for ecological reasons, a carved wooden body is more commonly used). 10 strings grouped into 5 pairs are stretched across the short neck.
